A2 The office

本在城市里为一家报社工作。大学后,他开始在“城市新闻”工作。

Běn zài chéngshì lǐ wèi yì jiā bàoshè gōngzuò. Dàxué hòu, tā kāishǐ zài “chéngshì xīnwén” gōngzuò.

Ben is working for a newspaper in the city. After university, he started his job at ’City News’. 

他喜欢写不同类型的故事。

Tā xǐhuān xiě bùtóng lèixíng de gùshì.

He enjoys writing and is working on different kinds of stories.

他平常在早上九点开始他的一天。星期四他到得很早，因为他上午八点有会议。

Tā píngcháng zài zǎoshang jiǔ diǎn kāishǐ tā de yì tiān. Xīngqīsì tā dàode hěn zǎo, yīnwèi tā shàngwǔ bā diǎn yǒu huìyì.

He usually starts his day at nine o'clock in the morning. Thursday he arrives early because he has a meeting at 8 a.m.

Tā qù chúfáng jiàndàole Láolā. Láolā shì hé tā yìqǐ gōngzuò de rén.

He goes to the kitchen and meets Laura, who works with him.

“早上好，劳拉。你现在准备好会议了吗？”

“Zǎoshang hǎo, Láolā. Nǐ xiànzài zhǔnbèi hǎo huìyìle ma?”

“Good morning, Laura. Are you ready for the meeting now?”

“Hi Ben! No, I need a coffee. I'm tired. Yesterday I forgot to go to the bank and this morning I got up at six o’clock to go there.”

They take coffee and biscuits and go to the meeting room.

Their boss is talking about new projects. Ben takes notes with a pencil.

“I want a short article about the factory which closes next week.”

“O, shì de, zhè hěn zhòngyào. Wǒ huì xiě yì piān guānyú gōngrén de wénzhāng.”

“Oh yes, that's important. I'll write about the workers.”

As they leave the room after the meeting, Laura asks Ben:

“Do you really like to always write about sport? It's so boring.”

“Do you like to write about shoes?”

“哦，本，还用问吗？。”

“O, Běn, hái yòng wèn ma?”

“Oh Ben, really?”

Their boss looks at them and says:

“What's so funny, Ben? Take your jacket and go to the box office. It's open now, but will be closed soon.”

“Alright, boss, I'm leaving right now.”

Ben goes to his desk, takes his mobile and leaves the office.
