C2 The Housewife

Anna è in cucina quando Ben torna a casa. Prende pentole, padelle e posate dalla lavastoviglie e le lava nel lavandino.

Anna is in the kitchen when Ben comes home. She is taking pots, pans and cutlery out of the dishwasher and washing them in the sink.

Ehi, che sta succedendo qui? Lo fai per divertimento?

“Hey, what's going on here? Are you doing this for fun?”

“Dobbiamo far riparare la lavastoviglie. Si è fermata e ne è uscito del fumo. "

“We need to have the dishwasher repaired. It stopped working and smoke was coming out of it.”

Fammi chiamare la padrona di casa. Dopotutto, lei o l'agenzia devono farlo.

“Let me call the landlady. After all, it's her or the agency who need to do this.”

Grazie, Ben! Nel frattempo, sceglierò una ricetta per la cena.

“Thanks, Ben! Meanwhile, I'll look for a recipe for dinner.”

Cosa hai comprato al mercato?

“What did you buy at the market?”

“Ho comprato carne bovina biologica, cavoli, zucchine, cetrioli e olive. "

“I bought organic beef, cabbage, courgettes, cucumbers and olives.”

Ah, meraviglioso! Stasera facciamo la zuppa di zucchine?

“Ah, marvellous! Shall we make a courgette soup tonight?”

Sì, inizierò da lì. Puoi comprare del pane domani? Non abbiamo farina, altrimenti lo infornerei da sola.

“Yes, I'll get started on that. Could you buy some bread tomorrow? We don't have flour, otherwise I'd bake it myself.”

Pensavo che odiassi le faccende domestiche? "

“I thought you hated housework?”

“Ho letto un articolo su come creare un'atmosfera piacevole a casa. Poi ho spento volentieri il mio computer e ho deciso di cucinare una bella cena per noi stasera. Ci sarei riuscita ma la lavastoviglie è esplosa. "

“I read an article about how to create a nice atmosphere at home. Then I willingly turned off my computer  and decided to make dinner for us tonight. I would have pulled it off but then the dishwasher exploded.”

Oh Anna, lasciati abbracciare. Voglio scusarmi con te. Giorno dopo giorno, ti prendo in giro perché odi le faccende domestiche, ma mi piace la nostra organizzazione. Dovremmo entrambi mirare a stare insieme il più possibile.

“Oh Anna, let me embrace you. I want to apologise to you. Day after day I make fun of you for hating housework, but I do like our arrangement. We should both aim to be together as much as possible.

Ricordi il parente di Marc? La sua auto ha preso fuoco ieri ed è bruciata. L'auto è stata completamente distrutta, ma lui è fuggito illeso. "

"Do you remember Marc’s relative? His car caught fire yesterday and burned down. The car was completely destroyed but he escaped unharmed.”

Mi ricordo di lui, è una storia davvero spaventosa. È ancora così grasso? Non lo vedo da anni.

“I remember him, that's a truly frightening story. Is he still so fat? I haven't seen him for years.”

Sì, lo è! L'obesità è un grande problema oggi. Le persone la prendono troppo alla leggera ed è solo una questione di tempo prima che sfugga di mano.

“Yes, he is! Obesity's a big crisis today. People take it too lightly and it’s only a matter of time before it gets out of control.

Quando sono andata in crociera con i miei genitori, molte persone erano già in sovrappeso ma continuavano a mangiare tutto il tempo.

"When I was on that cruise with my parents, a lot of people were already overweight but kept eating all the time.”

Proprio cosi, il cibo a bordo è incluso nel prezzo e tutti mangiano costantemente fino a quando non cadono addormentati. La stessa cosa succede in tutti gli hotel all-inclusive, è così sciocco. 

“That’s it, the food on board is included in the fare and everybody eats steadily till they drop into bed at night. The same thing happens in all inclusive hotels, it’s so silly.

La maggior parte delle persone è inconsapevole dell'importanza di seguire una dieta equilibrata.

"Most people are unaware of how important a well-balanced diet is.”

“È vero, ma in realtà, è anche ridicolo quanto costosi siano diventati alcuni prodotti. Devi essere benestante per poterteli permettere. Ho pagato così tanto oggi dal macellaio. Poi, alla cassa del supermercato, sono rimasto sorpreso da quanto costose fossero queste bacche che ho comprato per i nostri pancakes di domani mattina. "

“True, but in fact it also is ridiculous how expensive some goods have become. You need to be wealthy to afford them. I paid so much today at the butcher’s. Then at the checkout in the supermarket I was surprised at how expensive the berries I bought for our pancakes tomorrow morning were.”

L'industrializzazione ha reso la maggior parte del cibo davvero economica, ma ci sono cose che sono difficili da produrre in grandi quantità.

“Industrialisation has made the bulk of food so cheap, but there are some things which are hard to produce in big quantities.”
