D6 Shèyǐng Shī

D6 The photographer

朱莉亚曾是本好几年的室友。现在她作为一个摄影师来谋生。当他的报道要预定一个照片故事时。本抓住了这个机遇，并为这个工作推荐了朱莉亚。

Zhūlìyà céngshì Běn hǎojǐ nián de shìyǒu. Xiànzài tā zuòwéi yīgè shèyǐng shī lái móushēng. Dāng tā de bàodào yào yùdìng yīgè zhàopiàn gùshì shí. Běn zhuā zhù le zhège jīyù, bìng wèi zhège gōngzuò tuījiànle zhūlìyà.

Julia used to be Ben’s roommate for a number of years. Now she earns her living as a photographer. When his newspaper scheduled a photo story. Ben seized the opportunity and recommended Julia for the job.

She emerges from the subway carriage. She is wearing a casual navy blue dress and a diamond necklace. She looks relaxed. They exchange looks then she rushes over to embrace him tightly.

Bēn bùjīn gǎnjué dàole tā guòqù céng jīnglìguò de tóngyàng de xīyǐnlì. Tā kàn qǐlái bǐ yǐwǎng rènhé shíhòu dōu hǎo, tā shì zhè jiē shàng zuì měilì, zuì yòu rén de nǚrén.

Ben can’t help feeling the same attraction he used to experience in the past. She looks better than ever and is the most beautiful and desirable woman on the street.

“Hāi, Běn, wǒ yìzhí xiǎng zhǎo nǐ, yǐjīng yǒu yíduàn shíjiānle, dàn wǒ de rìchéng ānpái zǒngshì bù yǔnxǔ.”  

“Hi Ben! I've been trying to come and see you for some time but my schedule's never allowed me to.”

“我们那时需要一个摄影师真是一件好事。这一抉择不是我能控制的了的，而是我的老板看到了你的工作是多么得出色，所以急切地想雇佣你。”  

“Wǒmen nà shí xūyào yígè shèyǐng shī zhēnshi yí jiàn hǎoshì. Zhè yì juézé bushì wǒ néng kòngzhì deliǎo de, ér shì wǒ de lǎobǎn kàn dàole nǐ de gōngzuò shì duōme de chūsè, suǒyǐ jíqiè de xiǎng gùyōng nǐ.”  

“It’s a good thing that we needed a photographer then. The selection was beyond my control, but my boss saw how outstanding your work is and was really eager to hire you.”

“本—你看上去还不错完全长大了，不再是那个总是很饿的小反叛了。”   

“Běn—nǐ kàn shàngqù hái búcuò -wánquán zhǎng dàle, bú zài shì nàgè zǒng shì hěn è de xiǎo fǎnpànle.”   

“Ben - you look good - all grown up, you are not the starving little rebel anymore.”

“我希望能很快得到升职。有一个新报纸正在发行，我秘密地申请了那里编辑的职位。”  

“Wǒ xīwàng néng hěn kuài dédào shēngzhí. Yǒu yígè xīn bàozhǐ zhèngzài fāxíng, wǒ mìmì de shēnqǐngle nàlǐ biānjí de zhíwèi.”  

“I'm hoping to get a promotion soon. There's a new newspaper being launched and I've applied for the editor position there in secret.”

“好！你迟早会得到新任务的，而且你有决心要为成功打拼。”  

“Hǎo! Nǐ chízǎo huì dédào xīn rènwù de, érqiě nǐ yǒu juéxīn yào wèi chénggōng dǎpīn.”  

“Good! I'm sure you'll get some new tasks sooner or later, and you have the determination to fight for success.”

Ben blushes with embarrassment - compared to her, he considers himself a failure. He changes the subject.

“Nǐguò de zěnme yàng?” Wǒmen yǐjīng wǔ nián méi jiànle. Nǐ kàn qǐlái yě búcuò. Nǐ jiànshēn ma?”  

“How are you doing? We haven't seen each other for half a decade. You look good too. Do you work out?”

“是的，我必须强化我的背部。以前我的背相当疼。在过去，我懒得做运动，但现在不是了。去年我甚至参加了马拉松。”  

“Shì de, wǒ bìxū qiánghuà wǒ de bèibù. Yǐqián wǒ de bèi xiāngdāng téng. Zài guòqù, wǒ lǎnde zuò yùndòng, dàn xiànzài búshìle. Qùnián wǒ shènzhì cānjiāle mǎlāsōng.”  

“Yes, I have to strengthen my back. I've suffered considerably from backache. In the past I couldn't be bothered about sports but not anymore. I even ran a marathon last year.”

“你是如何找到动力的？我有时候想连续好几天就穿着睡衣闲待着。”   

“Nǐ shì rúhé zhǎodào dònglì de? Wǒ yǒushíhòu xiǎng liánxù hǎo jǐ tiān jiù chuānzhe shuìyī xián dāizhe.”   

“How do you find the motivation? Sometimes, I just want to lounge in my pyjamas for days on end.”

“我的策略是在交通高峰时段去健身房。这比在那个时候堵车坐在方向盘前好多了。特别是我，因为我会变得很凶。”  

“Wǒ de cèlüè shì zài jiāotōng gāofēng shíduàn qù jiànshēnfáng. Zhè bǐ zài nàgè shíhòu dǔchē zuò zài fāngxiàngpán qián hǎoduōle. Tèbié shì wǒ, yīnwèi wǒ huì biàn de hěn xiōng.”  

“My strategy is going to the gym during rush hour. It’s a great alternative to being seated at the steering wheel in a traffic jam. Specially for me because I get aggressive otherwise.”

“那可真厉害！我也决心要做一些改变。我的武术以前挺不错而且我一直想逼着我自己又开始学。这个想法我已经有了一段时间了。”   

“Nà kě zhēn lìhài!” Wǒ yě juéxīn yào zuò yìxiē gǎibiàn. Wǒ de wǔshù yǐqián tǐng búcuò érqiě wǒ yìzhí xiǎng bīzhe wǒ zìjǐ yòu kāishǐ xué. Zhège xiǎngfǎ wǒ yǐjīng yǒule yíduàn shíjiānle.”   

“That's impressive! I'm determined to change something too. I used to be relatively good at martial arts and I've had the intention to push myself to start again for some time.”

“运动肯定是有益的。健身后，身体上的疲惫可以让你放松，而后你也可以舒服地睡一觉。”  

“Yùndòng kěndìng shì yǒuyì de. Jiànshēn hòu, shēntǐ shàng de píbèi kěyǐ ràng nǐ fàngsōng, érhòu nǐ yě kěyǐ shūfú de shuì yí jiào.”  

“Sport is definitely beneficial. The physical exhaustion after a workout puts you at ease and afterwards you sleep so comfortably.”

突然间，本的表情变了。他带着真挚的情意看着朱莉亚。他记得他们住在一起时，是怎样手牵着手漫步在城市里度过那些日子的。

Túrán jiān, Běn de biǎoqíng biànle. Tā dàizhe zhēnzhì de qíngyì kànzhe Zhūlìyà. Tā jìdé tāmen zhùzài yìqǐ shí, shì zěnyàng shǒu qiān zhe shǒu mànbù zài chéngshì lǐ dùguò nàxiē rìzi de.

All of a sudden, Ben’s expression changes. He looks at Julia with genuine affection. He remembers how they spent their days wandering through the town hand in hand when they lived together.

But he made a fool of himself because he did not understand that she was not as attracted to him as he was to her. All the souvenirs he has tried to delete from his memory come back. He struggles to control his feelings.

当她意识到本为什么如此安静时，她暂停了一下而且感到有些羞愧。

Dāng tā yìshí dào Běn wèishénme rúcǐ ānjìng shí, tā zàntíngle yíxià érqiě gǎndào yǒuxiē xiūkuì.

When she realises why Ben is so silent she pauses and feels ashamed.

“那时我和你分开是很愚蠢的。”她轻轻地说。  

“Nà shí wǒ hé nǐ fēnkāi shì hěn yúchǔn de.” Tā qīngqīng de shuō.  

“It was stupid of me to split up from you,” she says softly.

“我想要被称为艺术家的野心当时是我生命唯一的意义。我那时真是疯了，横跨了所有的大陆去照我的系列照片。

“Wǒ xiǎng yào bèi chēng wéi yìshùjiā de yěxīn dāngshí shì wǒ shēngmìng wéi yī de yìyì. Wǒ nà shí zhēnshi fēngle, héngkuàle suǒyǒu de dàlù qù zhào wǒ de xìliè zhàopiàn.

“My ambition to be known as an artist was the only possible meaning of life for me. I went crazy and travelled across all the continents to produce my photo series.

一开始，咱们之间的距离似乎很让我很受用，因为我就想要自己的生活。直到我了解了其他人以后，我才开始理解咱们俩的过去。我为自己深感后悔，但是我太骄傲了，不愿意回去。”   

Yì kāishǐ, zánmen zhījiān de jùlí sìhū hěn ràng wǒ hěn shòuyong, yīnwèi wǒ jiù xiǎng yào zìjǐ de shēnghuó. Zhídào wǒ liǎojiěle qítā rén yǐ hòu, wǒ cái kāishǐ lǐjiě zánmen liǎ de guòqù. Wǒ wèi zìjǐ shēn gǎn hòuhuǐ, dànshì wǒ tài jiāo'àole, bú yuànyì huíqù.”   

"Initially, I welcomed the distance between us because I wanted a life of my own. It's only when I got to know somebody else that I started to understand what I had with you. I felt deeply sorry for myself but I was too proud to come back.”

“你离开我时我很受伤，但是现在我终于意识到这是正确的决定。你从没有为我着想过！你的事业好得让人难以置信，而且你确实成了名人了，但是你的行为太残忍了。对你来说，只有你自己最重要。”  

  “Nǐ líkāi wǒ shí wǒ hěn shòushāng, dànshì xiànzài wǒ zhōngyú yìshí dào zhè shì zhèngquè de juédìng. Nǐ cóng méiyǒu wèi wǒ zhuóxiǎngguò! Nǐ de shìyè hǎo de ràngrénnányǐ zhìxìn, érqiě nǐ quèshí chéngle míngrénle, dànshì nǐ de xíngwéi tài cánrěnle. Duì nǐ láishuō, zhǐyǒu nǐ zìjǐ zuì zhòngyào.”  

“I was hurt when you left me but now it's clear to me at last that it was the right decision. You never thought about me! You have this incredible career and you're a real celebrity, but your behaviour was so cruel. Nothing but yourself mattered to you.”
