D9 The Adventure

本和安娜已经在一个热带小岛上的小青年旅舍预订了一个房间。他们从大陆乘坐了渡轮，现在已经到达了岛上。该岛以其火山和具有异国风情的植物而闻名。从港口到旅舍的换乘没想到还很快，它有一辆很旧但还能用的公共汽车。

Běn hé Ānnà yǐjīng zài yígè rèdài xiǎo dǎo shàng de xiǎo qīngnián lǚshě yùdìngle yígè fángjiān. Tāmen cóng dàlù chéngzuòle dùlún, xiànzài yǐjīng dàodále dǎo shàng. Gāi dǎo yǐ qí huǒshān hé jùyǒu yìguó fēngqíng de zhíwù ér wénmíng. Cóng gǎngkǒu dào lǚshě de huànchéng méi xiǎngdào hái hěn kuài, tā yǒu yí liàng hěn jiù dàn háinéngyòng de gōnggòng qìchē.

Ben and Anna have booked a room in a small youth hostel on a tropical island. They took a ferry from the mainland and have now arrived on the island. It is famous for its volcano and exotic plants. The transfer from the port was unexpectedly quick on an old but functional bus.

他们在自助咖啡馆里吃虾和火鸡的三明治。安娜非常谨慎。她先问了食物里是否有花生，因为她对坚果过敏。

Tāmen zài zìzhù kāfēiguǎn lǐ chī xiā hé huǒjī de sānmíngzhì. Ānnà fēicháng jǐnshèn. Tā xiān wènle shíwù lǐ shìfǒu yǒu huāshēng, yīnwèi tā duì jiānguǒ guòmǐn.

They eat some prawn and turkey sandwiches in a self-service cafe. Anna is very cautious. She asks whether there are any peanuts in the food because she has a nut allergy.

Dāng tāmen dàodá bìng rùzhù de shíhòu, tāmen de fángjiān hái méiyǒu zhǔnbèi hǎo, dàn jīnglǐ gěi tāmen shēngle jí. Tāmen huòdéle gébì jiǔdiàn de yígè kuānchǎng de tàojiān.

When they arrive for the check in, their room is not yet available, but the manager upgrades them. They obtain a spacious suite in the hotel next door.

Tāmen gǎndào yǒudiǎn měng, yīnwèi tāmen méiyǒu xiǎngdào huì zhèyàng shūfu. Dàn hòulái tāmen yìshídào, tāmen de bókè míng jiù zài yùdìng quèrèn dān shàng. Zhèlǐ de zhǔrén shì xīwàng dédào tāmen yígè yǒu hǎogǎn de pínglùn tiězi.

They are puzzled because they did not expect so much comfort, but then they realise that the name of their blog is on the booking confirmation. Their host hopes they will publish a blog post which is sympathetic towards him.

一个服务员敲了门，他拿着一托盘的糕点和新鲜水果。安娜吃了一些葡萄。本剥了一个桃子。

Yígè fúwùyuán qiāole mén, tā názhe yì tuōpán de gāodiǎn hé xīnxiān shuǐguǒ. Ānnà chīle yìxiē pútáo. Běn bōle yígè táozi.

A servant knocks on the door. He has a tray of pastries and fresh fruit. Anna eats some grapes. Ben peels a peach.

“你从什么时候开始剥桃子吃了？”就像平常一样切就行了。”  

“Nǐ cóng shénme shíhòu kāishǐ bō táozi chīle?” Jiù xiàng píngcháng yíyàng qiē jiùxíngle.”  

“Since when do you peel peaches? Just cut it like you usually do.”

“我们在热带地区，这里有各种各样的细菌。苍蝇可能已经在这些食物上下过蛋了。不小心的话我们是会中毒的。我们会生非常严重的病，那会成为一场灾难。”   

“Wǒmen zài rèdài dìqū, zhè li yǒu gè zhǒng gè yàng de xìjūn. Cāngyíng kěnéng yǐjīng zài zhèxiē shíwù shàng xiàguò dànle. Bù xiǎoxīn de huà wǒmen shì huì zhòngdú de. Wǒmen huì shēng fēicháng yánzhòng de bìng, nà huì chéngwéi yì chǎng zāinàn.”   

“We're in the tropics, they have all kinds of bacteria here. Flies might have laid their eggs on the food. Carelessness could poison us. We could fall critically ill, that would be a disaster.”

“这可真有意思，你先是把我劝到了这里，现在你却害怕一个桃子。我们也可能会最终被龙卷风带走或要与鳄鱼战斗。这些也是很现实的设想。”  

“Zhè kě zhēn yǒuyìsi, nǐ xiān shi bǎ wǒ quàn dàole zhèlǐ, xiànzài nǐ què hàipà yígè táozi. Wǒmen yě kěnéng huì zuìzhōng bèi lóngjuǎnfēng dài zǒu huò yào yǔ èyú zhàndòu. Zhèxiē yěshì hěn xiànshí de shèxiǎng.”  

“It's really fascinating - first you convince me to come here and now you're scared of a peach. We could end up in a tornado or a battle with a crocodile. These are also realistic scenarios.”

“ 这可真让人放心啊！”

“Zhè kě zhēn ràngrénfàngxīn a!”

“How reassuring!”

“你看过那个传单吗？岛上的居民是如何受到人身攻击，被强奸和被当作奴隶进行交易的？”  

“Nǐ kànguò nàgè chuándān ma? Dǎo shàng de jūmín shì rúhé shòudào rénshēn gōngjī, bèi qiángjiān hé bèi dàng zuò núlì jìnxíng jiāoyì de?”  

“Have you seen the leaflet? How the inhabitants of the island were physically assaulted, raped and traded as slaves?”

“是的，我看了。西方文明为那个时代发生的事情仍然欠他们一个道歉。奴隶制是人类历史上最恐怖的一章。

“Shì de, wǒ kànle. Xīfāng wénmíng wèi nàgè shídài fāshēng de shìqíng réngrán qiàn tāmen yígè dàoqiàn. Núlìzhì shì rénlèi lìshǐ shàng zuì kǒngbù de yì zhāng.

“Yes, I have seen it. Western civilisation still owes them an apology for what happened in that era. Slavery was one of the most horrible chapters in the history of mankind.

今天，这里的农业几乎不够他们活下去。而他们非法移民后，就会被放在难民营里。他们被禁止工作，而且生活在贫困中。”      

Jīntiān, zhèlǐ de nóngyè jīhū bú gòu tāmen huó xiàqù. Ér tāmen fēifǎ yímín hòu, jiù huì bèi fàngzài nànmín yíng lǐ. Tāmen bèi jìnzhǐ gōngzuò, érqiě shēnghuó zài pínkùn zhōng.”      

"Today, the agriculture here barely produces enough for them to live on. And when they immigrate illegally, they're placed in refugee camps. They're prohibited from working and they live in poverty.”

“是的，我们需要给难民更好的政策。极端主义者入侵了这些国家，受害者们被他们懦弱地一个一个杀害了，都没有人帮助他们。”  

“Shì de, wǒmen xūyào gěi nànmín gèng hǎo de zhèngcè. Jíduān zhǔyìzhě rùqīnle zhèxiē guójiā, shòuhàizhěmen bèi tāmen nuòruò de yígè yígè shāhàile, dōu méiyǒu rén bāngzhù tāmen.”  

“Yes, we need better policies for refugees. Some countries are invaded by extremists who cowardly kill their victims one by one and nobody helps them.”

第二天，本和安娜去探索了丛林。阳光穿过树木茂密的叶子照了下来。他们看到了稀有的植物和动物。当一个昆虫从树丛中飞出来的时候，本因为地上的一个洞绊了一跤而多了一个肿块。

Dì èr tiān, Běn hé Ānnà qù tànsuǒle cónglín. Yángguāng chuānguò shùmù màomì de yèzi zhàole xiàlái. Tāmen kàndàole xīyǒu de zhíwù hé dòngwù. Dāng yígè kūnchóng cóng shùcóng zhōng fēi chūlái de shíhòu, Běn yīnwèi dìshàng de yígè dòng bànle yìjiāo ér duōle yígè zhǒngkuài.

The next day, Ben and Anna explore the jungle. The sun shines through the dense leaves of the trees. They see rare species of plants and animals. When an insect flies out of a bush, Ben stumbles into a hole and gets a bruise.

“小心，那是一个大黄蜂。这里的有些动物，他们的叮咬会非常严重。我读到过一些很危险的老鼠，蛇和其他爬行动物。”  

“Xiǎoxīn, nà shì yígè dà huángfēng. Zhèlǐ de yǒuxiē dòngwù, tāmen de dīngyǎo huì fēicháng yánzhòng. Wǒ dú dàoguò yìxiē hěn wéixiǎn de lǎoshǔ, shé hé qítā páxíngdòngwù.”  

“Careful, that was a big wasp. The bites of some of the animals here can be very nasty. I've read about rats, snakes and other reptiles that are very dangerous.”

回到村里，他们看到港口的船旁边渔夫们正在他们的网上干活。有一个队长看上去对他今天的收获非常满意，满是大的金枪鱼，甚至还有几条鲨鱼。

Huídào cūnlǐ, tāmen kàndào gǎngkǒu de chuán pángbiān yúfūmen zhèngzài tāmen de wǎngshàng gànhuó. Yǒu yígè duìzhǎng kàn shàngqù duì tā jīntiān de shōuhuò fēicháng mǎnyì, mǎn shì dà de jīnqiāngyú, shènzhì hái yǒu jǐ tiáo shāyú.

When they get back to the village, they see fishermen at the harbour working on their nets next to the ships. One captain seems very satisfied with his catch, which includes many large tunas and even some sharks.

这里的空气有点咸。那些生鱼看起来很新鲜。在港口的另一边，有一些大型游艇。与那些渔夫的小船不同，反映了它们的所有者的财富。

Zhèlǐ de kōngqì yǒudiǎn xián. Nàxiē shēng yú kàn qǐlái hěn xīnxiān. Zài gǎngkǒu de lìng yìbiān, yǒu yìxiē dàxíng yóutǐng. Yǔ nàxiē yúfū de xiǎochuán bùtóng, fǎnyìngle tāmen de suǒyǒu zhě de cáifù.

The air is salty. The raw fish looks very fresh. On the other side of the harbour, there are some large yachts. Unlike the small boats of the fishermen, they reflect the wealth of their owners.

安娜在经过渔夫们时，听到了他们对她欣赏的口哨声。

Ānnà zài jīngguò yúfūmen shí, tīngdàole tāmen duì tā xīnshǎng de kǒushào shēng.

 As she walks past the fishermen, Anna hears whistles of appreciation.

Běn tànzhe qì shuō:“Tāmen nàyàng duìdài nǐ, wǒ běnyīnggāi zòu tāmen de. Dàn wǒ bìxū chéngrèn, nǐ xìnggǎn de duǎnkù hé guāngzhe de shuāng tuǐ jiǎnzhí ràng wǒ yě wúfǎ hūxī. Nǐ zhēnshi tài jīngyànle!”   

Ben sighs: “I should punch them for treating you like that. But I have to admit that these sexy shorts and your bare legs are taking my breath away too. You look stunning!”

“至少他们奖赏了我健身的努力，那么这就算是值得的。”   

“Zhìshǎo tāmen jiǎngshǎngle wǒ jiànshēn de nǔlì, nàme zhè jiù suàn shì zhídé de.”   

“At least they're rewarding me for all the workout, so it was worthwhile.”

“女人有时真的很神秘。通常你会反对这种评论但是休假时，突然之间一切都变得不一样了。” 

“Nǚrén yǒushí zhēn de hěn shénmì. Tōngcháng nǐ huì fǎnduì zhè zhǒng pínglùn dànshì xiūjià shí, túrán zhī jiān yíqiè dōu biàn de bù yíyàngle.” 

“Women are really mysterious sometimes. Usually you object to these comments but suddenly everything is different when we're on holiday.”
