E3 The parachute

Ānnà zài wèi Běn zhǔnbèi yígè jīngxǐ. Tā yìzhí zài shìtú yǐnqǐ tā duì yígè biǎoyǎn de zhùyì. Nà shì tā zuì xǐhuān de xǐjù yǎnyuán zhī yī de biǎoyǎn. Zhège xǐjù yǎnyuán měinián dōu huì lái tāmen de chéngzhèn. Jīnnián de biǎoyǎn zhǔtí shì guǐ hé qítā chāozìrán shìjiàn. Běn xǐhuān xǐjù, dāng Ānnà shénmì de xuānbù yào qù mǒu gè dìfāng shí, zhège jiémù lìkè chūxiànzài tā de nǎozi lǐ.

Anna is planning a surprise for Ben. She has been drawing his attention to a show. It is from his favourite comedian. He comes to their town annually. This year, the theme of the show is ghosts and other supernatural occurrences. Ben likes comedy, and when Anna mysteriously announced that they were going to go somewhere, the show immediately came to his mind.

本还非常爱冒险，并且喜爱极限运动。去年，他潜水时，用钩子伤了肩膀，差点溺水。他的下巴上也有了一道割伤。

Běn hái fēicháng ài màoxiǎn, bìngqiě xǐ'ài jíxiàn yùndòng. Qùnián, tā qiánshuǐ shí, yòng gōuzi shāngle jiānbǎng, chàdiǎn nìshuǐ. Tā de xiàbā shàng yě yǒule yídào gē shāng.

Ben is also very adventurous and enjoys extreme sports. Last year, he was diving and almost drowned when he hurt his shoulder with a hook. He also got a cut on his chin.

那时，安娜焦急地等待着他的归来。而且马上就要给救援队打电话了。本在这次累人的潜水后，感到有些头晕但后来他的力量恢复了些。他们又可以驾船回海港了。

Nà shí, Ānnà jiāojí de děngdàizhe tā de guīlái. Érqiě mǎshàng jiù yào gěi jiùyuán duì dǎ diànhuàle. Běn zài zhè cì lèi rén de qiánshuǐ hòu, gǎndào yǒuxiē tóuyūn dàn hòulái tā de lìliàng huīfùle xiē. Tāmen yòu kěyǐ jià chuán huí hǎigǎngle.

Anna anxiously waited for his return and was at the point of calling a rescue team when Ben finally came back. Ben was dizzy after the exhausting dive but then his strength returned. They were able to sail back to the harbour.

即便这次他花了几个星期才完全恢复了肩膀的灵活，他对冒险的兴趣仍然没变。本的肩膀现在已经全愈，只是偶尔有点僵硬但是伤疤还是有点痒。他知道自己很幸运当时的氧气持续了足够长的时间。他知道那时在多岩的水域里潜水是自己太天真了。

Jíbiàn zhè cì tā huāle jǐ gè xīngqí cái wánquán huīfùle jiānbǎng de línghuó, tā duì màoxiǎn de xìngqù réngrán méi biàn. Even though it took him weeks to regain the full flexibility of his shoulder, his interest in adventures has remained unchanged. Ben’s shoulder has healed well and is only occasionally slightly stiff now, but the scar still itches a bit. He knows that he was lucky because his oxygen lasted long enough. He understands it was naive of him to dive in those rocky waters.

Tā yìzhí xiǎng tiào sǎn. Tā xiǎng tǐyàn yíxià zìyóu xià luò de sùdù.

He has always wanted to do a parachute jump. He wants to experience the speed of a free fall.

安娜对致命事故和有故障的设备非常害怕。因此她做了很彻底的研究并且比较了不同的报价。

Ānnà duì zhìmìng shìgù hé yǒu gùzhàng de shèbèi fēicháng hàipà. Yīncǐ tā zuòle hěn chèdǐ de yánjiū bìngqiě bǐjiàole bùtóng de bàojià.

Anna is scared of fatal accidents and faulty equipment. Therefore she has thoroughly researched and compared many different offers.

安娜和本坐在汽车上。安娜开车去机场。本以为她开向机库并正好在篱笆前面停下是出错了。

Ānnà hé Běn zuò zài qìchē shàng. Ānnà kāichē qù jīchǎng. Běn yǐwéi tā kāi xiàng jīkù bìng zhènghǎo zài líbā qiánmiàn tíng xià shì chūcuòle.

Anna and Ben are sitting in the car. Anna drives towards the airfield. Ben assumes it is a mistake when she drives towards the hangar and stops precisely opposite the fence.

“生日快乐，本！我为你预订了降落伞套餐。这里的组织者是一个退役军人。他已经做过了一千多次的跳伞，而且没有受过伤。答应我你会遵循他的指示。”  

“Shēngrì kuàilè, Běn! Wǒ wèi nǐ yùdìngle jiàngluòsǎn tàocān. Zhèlǐ de zǔzhī zhě shì yígè tuìyì jūnrén. Tā yǐjīng zuòguòle yìqiān duō cì de tiàosǎn, érqiě méiyǒu shòuguò shāng. Dāyìng wǒ nǐ huì zūnxún tā de zhǐshì.”  

“Happy birthday, Ben! I booked a parachute package for you. The organiser is a retired soldier. He's already done more than 1000 jumps without any injuries. Promise me you'll follow his instructions.”

Ben is excited about his present and reassures Anna:

“Ó, Ānnà, xièxiè! Wǒ zhīdào zhè huì xiàdào nǐ, dàn wǒ huì xìnshǒu nuòyán érqiě xiǎoxīn de.”  

"Oh Anna, thank you. I know this frightens you, but I'll keep my promise and I will be careful.”

“我相信你的话。”她紧张地说。  

“Wǒ xiāngxìn nǐ dehuà.” Tā jǐnzhāng de shuō.  

“I'm taking your word for it,” she says nervously.

她知道他被托付给了可靠的人，尽管如此她还是感到很忧心。突然之间，安娜的恐惧变得让她无法承受，她都想要撤销她的决定了。

She knows that he is in safe hands, but she is nevertheless troubled. Out of the blue, Anna’s fear becomes unbearable and she wants to reverse her decision.

Jiàoliàn zǒu guòlái jiǎndān de dǎle yígè zhāohū, bìngqiě hé Běn rènshi le yíxià. Tā jiěshì shuō, jīntiān de mùbiāo shì xuéxí jīběn de dìngyì hé lǐlùn, yǐjí zài jǐnjí qíngkuàng xià huì àn de jiàngluòsǎn ànniǔ. Ránhòu, tāmen huì fēnxi shìpín bìngqiě zǒngjié yàodiǎn.

The instructor comes over for a quick greeting and to get to know Ben. He explains that the aim for today is to learn basic definitions and theory, as well as which buttons to press on the parachute in case of an emergency. They will then analyse some videos and sum up the key points.

本大胆地要求今天就要跳伞。老师生气了。

Běn dàdǎn de yāoqiú jīntiān jiù yào tiàosǎn. Lǎoshī shēngqìle.

Ben boldly demands to have his jump as soon as today. The instructor gets angry.

“我被批准可以把任何人永久地从这个课程里开除出去。谁不按照纪律要求去做，我就开除谁。妥当的准备方法是先要有一个全面的培训。如果你在跳跃过程中对有的事情没有把握，那可会是致命的。无论你是怎样的装备齐全和训练有素，都还是有可能出麻烦。“ 

“Wǒ bèi pīzhǔn kěyǐ bǎ rènhé rén yǒngjiǔ de cóng zhège kèchéng lǐ kāichú chūqù. Shéi bú ànzhào jìlǜ yāoqiú qù zuò, wǒ jiù kāichú shéi. Tuǒdang de zhǔnbèi fāngfǎ shì xiān yào yǒu yígè quánmiàn de péixùn. Rúguǒ nǐ zài tiàoyuè guòchéng zhōng duì yǒu de shìqíng méiyǒu bǎwò, nà kě huì shì zhìmìng de. Wúlùn nǐ shì zěnyàng de zhuāngbèi qíquán hé xùnliàn yǒu sù, dōu háishì yǒu kěnéng chū máfan.“ 

“I am authorised to permanently remove people from the course. Anybody who does not show the required discipline, I will remove. The proper way to prepare is to have a thorough training first. If you are uncertain about anything on the jump, it can be deadly. No matter how well-equipped and well-qualified you are, there can always be complications.”

“不要这么专横。我们不是小孩子，被这样子对待太让人受打击了。”  

“Búyào zhème zhuānhèng. Wǒmen búshì xiǎo háizi, bèi zhèyàng zi duìdài tài ràng rén shòu dǎjíle.”  

“Don’t be so bossy. We're not little children and it's frustrating to be treated this way.”

“你的表现很不恰当。别再胡闹了，而且要听从我的命令，否则我会取消你的跳伞。”  

“Nǐ de biǎoxiàn hěn bú qiàdàng. Bié zài húnàole, érqiě yào tīngcóng wǒ de mìnglìng, fǒuzé wǒ huì qǔxiāo nǐ de tiàosǎn.”  

“You are behaving very inappropriately. Stop messing around and start following my orders, or else I will cancel your jump.”

本很生气。在离开这栋楼时，他打翻了几个箱子才走。

Běn hěn shēngqì. Zài líkāi zhè dòng lóu shí, tā dǎfānle jǐ gè xiāngzi cái zǒu.

Ben gets angry as he leaves the building, he knocks over some boxes.
